For long-term thinking, more cores are preferable. Those two chips are quite alike; the i9 could be marginally quicker but not justified by the steep cost increase. If you can handle the i9, consider the AMD Ryzen 9 3900x instead. A bit pricier now but could be cheaper later if you wait a month.
