I own an older, sturdy case, though it's 11 years old. The PSU has always worked fine without any issues. I’m considering upgrading the CPU, memory, RAM, GPU, and spending no more than $500, including tax—whatever is best. I already have a better main system, so this upgraded setup will serve as my backup.

Case specifics:
- Dimensions: medium size case (exact measurements unknown)
- Inside clearance: 5.25" depth x 13.75" width x 13" length
CPU info from cpuz:
https://postimg.cc/gallery/23DqZTy
Specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i7 Extreme 990x
- MB: P6X58D-E (12x10")
- RAM: 4GB x 6, total 24GB (three different speed pairs)
- GPU: Radeon RX 570 series (too large for this case, but sometimes used with the case open; need a shorter model)
- PSU: 850W Seasonic M12D SS-850EM. System has been lightly used for about 4 years.
Possible parts:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jH36sh
Alternative CPU options:
- AMD Ryzen 5 5500 3.6 GHz 6-core ($91.34 @ Amazon)
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M K Micro ATX AM4 ($84.99 @ B&H)
- RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-3200 ($50 estimate)
- Storage: 1TB SSD ($40 estimate)
- Case: Old case
- GPU: Approx $200–$225

This MB is microATX, so a standard size would fit if budget allows. I’m open to suggestions on the GPU and feel confident about the overall plan. No prior experience building PCs, but I’m eager to learn.

I have an old case, well built system, but 11 years old. PSU has never given any problems. I would change the PSU as well. Make and model of your case? What you've posted are dimensions without clearance info for the innards. GPU: possible a used GPU from ebay? not sure. You're better off flushing that money down the drain, not kidding on this point. Buy Brand new. Can you pass on a PCPartPicker Link or perhaps stylize your post like this; *How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice* How to Ask for New Build or Upgrade Advice First off, respect where respect is due - this is an adaptation of the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky. I created this because there's a lot of posts nowadays asking for upgrade advice both on here and on the CPU forums, and I feel... forums.

I also found this one intriguing now. The price difference between $400 and $240 seems worth considering, especially since I might need to spend much more than $500 to $600 on a backup system that I probably won’t use often.
