Hey, need some advice on choosing a motherboard for your 5600X setup. You're looking at 4K 60 performance on an LG C9 55 and want to pair it with a VRM heatsink. You've got a 3080 Strix and a 3600Mhz cooler, but you're not using any PCIe cards beyond the 3080. You're planning to run the CPU overclocked with a 360A AIO and don't need a front panel with 10Gb ports. You're considering the B550 Aorus Pro, MSI Tomahawk, X570, and others. Prices are really high, but you're in a tight spot. You mentioned wanting a 6-layer PCB for memory speeds and a fanless chipset. Should you go with the X570 or stick with the B550 Aorus Pro? What trade-offs are you making?
I never really considered x570 boards. I’d probably choose the B550 Aorus PRO. It looks promising for overclocking. The only thing I’m unsure about is whether the B550 supports PCIe gen 4. If it does, go with B550; otherwise, I’d recommend the x570 since they do.
Sounds like you're satisfied with the 3080, right? B550 is a solid choice.
msi b550 a-pro, tomahawk (excessive even with 12 cores) asus b550 tuf, tuf plus, tuf wifi tier c works well with 5600 even when overclocked. tier b is too much for 5600 but common choice for 5600, while tier a is overkill for 5600 yet ideal with 8 coprocessors and 12 cores. it suits 16 core systems and is considered overkill beyond 3950x.
