There isn't a direct download for just the BIOS file—only the Installer Exe is available. If I regain access to his laptop, I'll attempt to run the 8.1 installer. I haven't found any CAB files in the executable either.
He’s completely mistaken about this. His CPU is extremely weak—just two cores with four threads aren’t sufficient these days, and those two cores don’t even handle high performance. The GPU is terrible; this machine is built for basic office tasks and maybe simple games like solitaire. Any recent gaming releases from around 2012 are barely functional, except perhaps older titles like TF 2 or Rocket League, which would actually run on a smart toaster.
