Fixing an Intel Core i7 8700k that's locked at 4.3GHz
After reviewing multiple discussions, I realized my issue remained unresolved. I attempted to overclock the 8700k, but it remains locked at 4.3GHz. I used the mainboard's OC tools and tried Intel XTU, setting the multiplier to x47 and voltage to 1.285V. Under load, it occasionally hits 4.4GHz but never reaches the target 4.7GHz. The BIOS settings don’t allow me to adjust anything. My hardware includes an MSI B360-A Pro with 2x8GB DDR4 RAM at 2.666 MHz, a GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 RAM, and a strong liquid cooling system. Thank you for your assistance!
Overclocking isn't possible with the B360; a Z370 is required for that.
Based on the earlier response, you won't be able to increase the speed of your CPU or RAM on the B360 motherboard. The only part that can be overclocked is your graphics card.
You won't be able to overclock with the B360, you'll need a Z370 instead.
Oh God, that can't be true... Now MSI has given me my money back. I asked the support whether it's possible to OC the GPU and CPU, and they said yes... Wow, I'm crying right now.
how long have you owned the motherboard? you should be able to run a single core benchmark and probably the 8700k will definitely increase one of its cores to 4.7ghz. i would check that. otherwise, to be honest, an [email protected] versus stock 4.3-4.7ghz isn't a deciding factor. for an adobe premier render we're looking at 9 minutes versus 10 minutes or in gaming a 55fps versus 58fps difference. if you can still return your motherboard, i would.
I understand your perspective, though the issue lies more in the execution than the performance itself. I plan to return my motherboard to obtain a Z370. Thank you for your support.
