Hello,

I’m experiencing frame rate issues with virtually all games I try to play. Although my computer isn't high-end, it surpasses the minimum specifications for older titles such as *Bioshock* (the first edition). Here are the recommended system requirements:

Operating System:
Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) or Windows Vista

Processor:
Intel Core 2 Duo processor

Memory:
2GB RAM; Video Card: A DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with at least 512MB of memory and a Pixel Shader 3.0 (e.g., NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT) or a DirectX 10 compliant card like the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 or better

Sound Card:
SoundBlaster® X-Fi™ series – optimized for use with Creative Labs EAX ADVANCED HD 4.0 or EAX ADVANCED HD 5.0 compatible sound cards

Storage:
8GB Hard Drive

My specifications are as follows:
Intel® Core™ i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 1gb
12 GB RAM
Windows 10
1920x1080

Even when running on medium graphics settings and a resolution of 1280x720, I consistently achieve only around 20 frames per second. This performance mirrors what I observe with games that require a minimum of a GTX 660. My GPU is always operating at 100% utilization, while my CPU, RAM, and other components rarely exceed 50%.

I’m seeking suggestions regarding the source of this problem. Is it primarily due to my graphics card, or could there be another bottleneck affecting performance? It seems I would experience smoother gameplay on my older Intel 4400 processor.

Thank you for your assistance!

The GeForce GT 610 possesses theoretical speed advantages over certain older graphics cards; however, those cards were developed alongside the games and benefited from superior driver assistance. This particular GPU isn’t designed for gaming—it's intended as a fallback option for utilizing an office computer when the processor lacks integrated graphics capabilities. While other factors might be involved, the GT 610 is unsuitable for any gaming applications.

It’s understood, however it remains above the advised requirements for BioShock. Therefore, the reason for just 20 frames per second at a reduced resolution and mid settings is unclear.

The GPU reaching 100% utilization is causing a performance limitation for the entire system.

The graphics card is fully utilized and cannot handle additional load. Consider reducing the display settings.

Is there a possible explanation for its full utilization potentially caused by an issue with the graphics card?

If I’m understanding correctly, when I contrast my GPU with suggested models, mine frequently surpasses them by 200-400% across many metrics. Why then does it still struggle to operate smoothly?

Is it overheating? Should you connect the display to the mainboard rather than the graphics card?

Your outdated Intel Graphics 4400 are significantly superior to a GT 610.

Wow… I didn’t realize that. I can’t afford a good upgrade right now, but I’ll search for a used graphics card costing around $40.

Thank you.
