I frequently enjoy playing Fortnite, however, when exciting or competitive moments occur, my frames per second significantly decrease to between 20 and 40. Additionally, my central processing unit reaches maximum utilization at 100%. Here are my system specifications:
Windows 10
Intel i5-6600k at 3.30 GHz
8 GB of RAM
Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti

I'm not sure. I recently experienced significant lag while playing Fortnite, requiring me to wait 2-3 minutes for the game to load. I honestly don’t know. I was experiencing significant lag in Fortnite, sometimes waiting 2 to 3 minutes for the game to load. I then connected via mobile data using USB tethering, and the lag was unbearable. Switching to a Wi-Fi connection and an Ethernet cable resolved the issue entirely.
If you’re encountering similar problems while gaming, try pressing Alt+Tab to open Task Manager and check your GPU usage. If Task Manager isn't displaying GPU information, right-click on the process name to enable it and identify what’s consuming your graphics card.
