Five short beeps indicate a problem with the Gigabyte motherboard.
Hello! I recently assembled a new PC today using completely new components. The parts included: motherboard - GIGABYTE B460M DS3H, CPU - Intel Core i5-10400F, RAM - TEAM GROUP TED48G2666C1901, power supply - INNOVATOR SL-X650EPS. After finishing the build and performing a final check, I connected the keyboard, mouse, and display via DVI out of the motherboard. When I pressed the start button, it emitted five short beeps from the motherboard, but the system didn’t power on. I was told that these five beeps were related to the CPU, though the new CPU is installed correctly. I also noticed the ATX 12V power connector on the motherboard next to the CPU is an 8-pin type, while the Innovator power supply’s CPU power connector is 4-pin. Since the 4-pin connectors are connected in parallel, I opted for the 8-pin one from the Innovator supply. I believe this should be fine. Do you have any suggestions or advice? Thanks!
You thanked _DeXTeR_ for their prompt reply. I verified the RAM and reinstalled it. It is listed among the supported RAM options for this motherboard. I tested the 4 ATX 12V pins using a multimeter (ohms scale) without power, confirming they are connected in parallel on the back panel. Based on your message, I think the i5-10400F requires more power to respond. I doubted the PSU could supply enough current to the CPU, though I wasn’t certain. I plan to upgrade the power supply to at least 750W. I shared this issue to see if others have similar experiences. I’ll follow up after the PS upgrade. Thanks again!
Hello once more, everything is resolved. I've set up the INTEL CORE i5-10400F, though it doesn't have built-in graphics. It works fine with an affordable graphics card temporarily, but I plan to upgrade to a higher-quality one soon. Additionally, I'll switch to a Seasonic PSU rated for tier B.
Hey there! I see you're facing the same issue too. After installing all components, you're still getting that same 5 beep sound. You mentioned trying two different graphics cards—one GT630 from MSI and another GFroze G210. What do you think might be causing this?
Hi At my office there is a pc that gives 5 beeps. No one seems to know anything about, I'v tried some of the basic trouble shooting but no progress (running it without the hdd and gpu, clearing the cmos, reseating everything, trying different ram) I do think that the post codes differ depending on the ram slot but I might just be loosing my mind. Any ideas? CPU: i5 9400F Intel.
