first OC some questions about i5 6600k
Hi everyone
I built my first system 2 weeks ago:
Mobo: ASUS z170 pro gaming
CPU: i5 6600k
RAM: kingston hyperX 2400mhz (2 x 8gb)
Cooler: coolermaster Hyper 212 evo
SSD: kingston 240gb
HDD: WD blue 1tb
PSU: Seasonic s12ii 620w
GPU: (soon XD)
Case: Thermaltake commander g42
Now I’m attempting a slight CPU overclock and have read some advice in the forum.
😛
I got OC 4.3Ghz at 1.25v (manually set) – it’s not a huge boost, but it works fine for now.
It gives me:
- Idle: 26°–30°C
- Max temp: 64°–65°C during full load (tested with Prime95 for 9 hours)
- Max sustained: 53°–54°C with AIDA64 for 2 hours
No BSOD or crashes.
My questions are:
Is this acceptable? I only changed the CPU voltage and core multiplier, nothing else.
I’m curious if adjusting the LLC level is necessary since I left it in auto.
Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks!! 😀
(Sorry for my English, I tried my best!)
So far everything is working well. Your goal is to reduce the voltage gradually until instability appears.
Your temperature-voltage readings are accurate, so you can safely increase them further.
If the system remains fully stable, you could keep it unchanged. I’d aim to lower the voltage to discover the minimum suitable value for my chip, which I estimate should be around 4.3.

So far everything is working well. Your next goal is to reduce the voltage as much as possible. Gradually lower it until you reach the unstable point.
Your temperature-voltage readings are perfect, so you can safely increase them a bit more.
If the system is truly stable, you can keep it unchanged. I’d suggest lowering the voltage to discover the minimum suitable for my chip at 4.3 personally.
Thanks for the help!
Still no crashes so far, and temperatures are even better (just added extra case fans intake-exhaust).
I’ll look for a lower voltage.
Another question: what is the VID core range for the i5 6600k? Mine shows between 0.730v (idle, no load) and 1.360v at full load (tested with prime95, aida64, realbenchmark). Is that acceptable or too high?
Thanks again!
