First encounters with disasters and questions
Here are some alternative phrasings for your text:
- The team I’m talking about includes Albatross Q, E, R, F, plus the left shift button. Act fast before you start strafing—your ship needs a few seconds to speed up, particularly at full power. Practice Vanduul Swarm and racing drills first so you’re comfortable with your ship and weapons. Different ships respond differently to maneuvers; for example, the Hornet excels at vertical strafing rather than horizontal. You’ll inevitably face ramming and crashes. When encountering players like that, they often fall quickly because you can overpower them, but the crash is unavoidable. Usually I let them hit one of my wings, which leads to a spinning death if it doesn’t stop them, allowing me to dismantle them efficiently. Outside of that, your best options are switching servers, changing map mode, or adjusting game settings. Battle Royale tends to be the busiest, while squadron battles often get ignored and only a few games run at a time.
Thanks for your responses! I’d rather avoid making mistakes in combat and let my team stay strong. @ ItsComrade That explanation really clicks! I was just using w and r to move sideways. I believed left shift gave me a speed boost and didn’t realize f is used on ships (thought it was only for Avatars). That definitely helps! I plan to try it out against the Vanduul swarm for some practice. If we run into that person again, he won’t repeat that move. haha So what’s the purpose of w and s together? Moving forward and backward, correct? I’m aware that CAPS can lock me in place so I can pause, shoot, and y is scan for targets, x is cycle through flares and z to deploy them. @ Napper198 Yes, I was practicing Vanduul Swarm for some drills as the training module stopped working after teaching me how to land. I’m not sure if that’s the final step or a personal issue, but I’ll resume training now. Speaking of which! One of his rams actually hit my left wing and he started spinning wildly. I thought it was funny because I took a lot of damage before he crashed into an asteroid. I suspect I was in Battle Royale—was the game version where you had to buy tickets before the timer ended? As for racing, it doesn’t seem available for me right now. I’ll check again! *Is there a way to send a message in the game like a shoutbox or chat?* I met someone interested in playing or practicing with me, but I’m not sure how to connect or talk to them. Do you handle that through the forum only?
In normal operation (when you start), you're connected to a paired system. W and S control your throttle from 0 to full power. A and D manage roll and mouse orientation (roughly, I'm not sure about aviation terms). E and Q allow you to move sideways, while R and F handle up and down movements. Shift acts like the afterburner but can also boost secondary thrusters. Holding F for descent and pressing shift boosts your downward push. Pressing CAPS LOCK switches you to unpaired mode, giving more freedom to maneuver. Moving forward while decoupled lets you spin around while still advancing—great for dodging pursuers. Some pilots choose decoupled flying for better control but risk drifting. Here, afterburner and the strafing keys are essential; practice is key. I recall a video showing someone finish a race on a Hornet in decoupled mode—surprisingly smooth. The spacebar acts as the main brake and can be enhanced with afterburner. X and C serve as countermeasures against missiles, while Left CTRL keeps your targeting centered for smoother mouse control (especially with my 325a).
He’s really got the skills! That was cool! Second, he’s getting straight to the point—it makes a difference. I’ll keep working on it, but understanding the controls is helpful. Decoupled mode also helps explain why my ship sometimes drifts too much and ends up hitting asteroids. I lost control at one point because of that drifting, and I was surprised it didn’t hit me. Now I’m loading the game to practice. I’m hoping to improve noticeably in about a week.
Did you go through the flight tutorial? It covers everything. The W and S controls move up and down, not left to right. Pressing Ctrl + W or Ctrl + S will adjust thrusters forward and backward. Using Ctrl + S with throttle at zero will pull you back.
I believe no matter which game you choose, there are always people who don’t enjoy playing fairly. Observing GTA and its hacker community doesn’t imply everyone in Star Citizen is bad.
I just noticed I mentioned land... I meant take off. Lol Anyway, I attempted it. But after exiting the hanger, the screen turns white and all I can hear is my character breathing heavily. True! Yeah, I know, I was just upset about the disappointment of my first match.
