I pressed the Windows key and began typing, but it didn’t locate what I needed. I turned off internet searches so only “my stuff” was checked. When I looked for updates, nothing appeared. I even tried searching “Windows update settings,” but it still gave no results. This isn’t working.

It's fine if I type "intel," it will show you Intel XTU.

You can now find the search bar at the beginning of the interface.

I handled everything, indexed 5 lakh files, yet the item remains hidden. Even when navigating to the folder and searching manually, no results appear.

When you look for updates, it works smoothly. It feels like StartisBack is even better than expected.

Everything is working properly. Did you perform a fresh installation? It might be an issue with the update itself.

Function operates smoothly. The issue appears when indexing fails for some users after upgrading Windows. Including details like @ Rohith_Kumar_Sp is problematic. It forces the system to process more data for quick searches, overwhelming results with irrelevant files such as .dlls, which worsens performance. You should rebuild the index. Launch the Classic Control Panel, adjust the icons layout to "small" or "large" if needed, and navigate to Indexing Options. In the panel, click "Advanced," ensure "Current location:" points to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft, then select the "Rebuild" button at the top or middle. Wait for a brief pause—this may freeze the window temporarily. Once complete, the search will be slow while the index is being rebuilt. No progress indicator is visible. You can exit the panel; leaving the system for an hour should resolve the matter. If it doesn’t, revisit Indexing Options, tap "Troubleshoot search and index," and follow the steps. Rebuild may need to be repeated if issues persist.

It relies on Windows APIs and the Indexed Search service. You can develop it independently. Performance won't improve.

I cleared everything and just added one folder, searched inside for the file I needed, but still couldn’t find it. I gave up on it. The idea behind indexing is to locate things that aren’t there, which makes sense, but expecting someone to only index what they’re searching for is unrealistic. Adding more items can lead to poor results, but that’s not my responsibility—I’m trying to make sure I index what I think I should. I’m sorry, but asking people to focus only on what they need is like expecting them to remember where they lost their phone without knowing its location. And yes, I deleted and rebuilt just in case you had concerns.

Did you wait for it to rebuild? Did you adhere to the guidance I provided? No. The goal of indexing is to have your files or programs available immediately. Without an index, searching will be slow and you’ll need to look through folders manually. Not using the start menu. Indexing functions like organizing items. If everything is cataloged, there’s no need for a search system—simply browse each file individually, as Windows did in earlier versions. Think of it like entering a phone number into a directory: faster than flipping through pages. In your situation, I suspect the index exists but searching isn’t enabled. Ensure the Windows Search service is active and set to automatic. If it’s running properly, you might need to reinstall Windows 10 since something appears to be faulty.
