Hello, I’m trying to upgrade my PC. It currently has a Gigabyte motherboard with a 4-pin power connector, but I need to switch it to an MSI B550 which uses an 8-pin socket. Would it be safe to use it temporarily until I can get a better one? I really don’t want any damage from doing it myself again.
The 4-pin connector can handle up to 192 watts. As long as your CPU doesn’t consume more than that, it should work. However, if the board needs an 8-pin and you can’t upgrade, a 4-to-8 adapter might help—but be careful since exceeding the cable’s wattage rating can cause fire risks. A dedicated PSU would be safer.
