At the workplace, the boss's family had two Macs (they claimed they were around 10 years old, but they were supposed to be wiped soon; we discovered they actually worked and could be useful for iOS app development, so we didn’t need to purchase a new Mac)—but they don’t remember the passwords. I attempted the recovery option, but it didn’t work; only a boot to macOS disk was available, no recovery disk. Others suggested logging in and resetting, using an Ubuntu flash drive to restore, or restoring from a disk that might still be in the house. However, since they moved recently and are clearing out items, finding any of these options seems unlikely.
If the Mac is functional, generate a bootable USB for macOS and start from there. Utilize Disk Utility to prepare the internal storage and set up a fresh installation of macOS.
I checked with a Mac user who recently reinstalled her system at home. She mentioned she might have one, but it's not confirmed. Worth a shot!
