Consider choosing an Apple device or opting for a basic phone. It seems companies like Google openly talk about these security measures, which makes it feel less like a typical news piece.

Don't assume Apple gathers identical information from iPhones for the same reason.

They mentioned only Google, so I provided the alternative one. Yes, I also made some changes since it feels more like a story when you explore how Google actually functions and connects with other tools. That’s how anti-spam and similar services operate—integrated with their broader systems. Magic AI local processing?

It's a double-edged sword of today's technology. They gather a lot of metadata (and actually, the data they need is all they require), which allows them to power their advanced features. You're left to either adapt to it or miss out on modern conveniences.

Switching to a different messaging app might not stop the data collection; they could still gather information regardless of the platform used.

It seems the article is focusing mainly on "Google messaging apps," which aren't installed on regular phones outside Gmail. I actually need to install those official "Google apps" before using them. For the bigger problem, it's a hassle but you can disable most data usage and ads on Android. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Perhaps apple once aimed to sell premium gear and push all their software through a single channel, avoiding direct marketing data collection. Companies like Google and Microsoft succeeded by offering affordable or free products while monetizing ads. But things have shifted—whether it still holds up is unclear.

Historically, Apple excelled in creating solid hardware. It wasn’t focused on aggressive advertising strategies, and it didn’t feel the pressure to constantly show growth to investors since it dominated its market. Additionally, Google originally functioned as a search engine.

If I asked you five years back, I’d say Apple offers more privacy, but now they’re still ahead—just because they’re playing catch up, not because of any real moral stance. Avoid Apple Pay and iCloud at all costs.
