Hey there, I’ve been trying AC: Valhalla for a while now and it’s been a bit of a headache. I’m running an 8700K with 2080 Ti, the game is installed on a Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe SSD. Even with that setup, it kept dropping to around 85 FPS and then crashing down to 8-10 FPS, only to bounce back up to about 85 again. It was really frustrating. I checked the graphics settings and noticed the game defaults to “borderless” mode. Switching it to “full screen” made a big difference, smoothing things out. Plus, in borderless the frame rate is capped at 60 FPS, while full screen lets you pick higher settings like 30, 60, 120 or even 144 FPS. Hope this helps! Let me know if it worked for you. - Blake

boarder less means it's okay. Check the current temps, CPU, GPU, and RAM usage. See if anything else is active. Similar issues appear in other games too.

I really dislike how Microsoft is forcing games to use borderless mode. It comes with serious issues, especially when trying to hit smooth frame rates. Even for Assassin’s Creed, maintaining 60fps is tough—usually it’s limited by CPU power. Watch Dogs is no different; I’m stuck at around 55fps/50Hz despite the hardware specs. It’s encouraging to know Valhalla is running well, which might mean I can finally reach a stable 60fps.

I’m sure my hardware is all good. The problem was the game itself. My 8700K ran at 60% usage in the 60s, and my 2080 Ti was at 65-68% with 90% usage. My DDR4 3600 RAM was at 9GB or 32GB used. Other games worked fine, but this one changed when I switched from borderless to full screen. I wrote this post for those who might not realize it was the issue, just like I didn’t until I discovered it.

Check if it's operating at 3600MHz. With a 3200 kit and a 3600 kit, they likely run around 2133 or 2400. The 3200 kit probably needs overclocking to reach 3600 (or did you adjust it?)

I have XMP activated. The issue isn’t with me or my computer—it’s the game defaulting to borderless mode instead of full screen. Adjusting it resolved the problem.

Ignore my previous comment, I had two threads running and combined them. Sorry.

I noticed some overlap between the two threads you shared.
