I looked through the forum but didn’t find a resolved discussion for this issue. From what I understand, I bought a brand new Dell laptop at a low price. The OS image shipped from Dell might be damaged. Based on my experience, OEM keys for Windows 8 don’t work on fresh copies. I haven’t found a solution yet. Anyone have any ideas?

Ensure they include a disc containing the operating system details. Otherwise, initiate a return.

I don’t have an ISO file. I was thinking about getting it from MS servers, but the OEM key isn’t working. It seems to be installed on Windows 8.1. I miss when things worked that way. I haven’t even tried booting into Windows 8 to create a recovery USB.

Are you sure? I've installed around five computers recently, and each one has arrived with an issue—sometimes just a single key. I'm going to file a return request. New software shouldn't fail if it's brand new.

Great! You're currently downloading it. Will the OEM key function as expected? Previously, it didn't...

Dell sent me the restore USB again. It seemed like it came with very little extra software, which is nice. About 20 minutes later, the laptop returned to its original condition.
