Find the optimal method to connect your gadgets to your router.
Hi everyone, here’s some guidance. You’re using BT’s Smart Hub as your router, connected to an Openreach 5C Master Socket. Your setup has the hub on a desk near the socket next to the door. If you want all your devices—PC, Xbox One, Hue Hub—on your desk with a wired connection, you don’t need to move the master socket. Consider using a single Ethernet cable from the socket directly into a switch or router that supports multiple ports. This way, you can keep everything in one place without extra cabling around the room. Let me know if you’d like more details!
It's best to minimize the length of the wire from the master socket to the router. If it's an RJ11 cable, you should avoid using a longer cable to your desk.
Unless you process it for 50 or more meters or more, signal quality should remain stable. I've used about 20 to 30 meters of cable from the master socket to the router without any problems.
