I’m evaluating my setup with an i5 4690k and 16GB DDR3 for gaming and photo work. I’m considering upgrading to a new generation card soon, but right now my performance is slowing down, particularly with photo editing software. I’m staying within a budget since kids need food, so I’m looking for good value without major sacrifices. A B450 Mobo and a Ryzen 5 3600 seem like solid choices, though I understand the Ryzen 7 would be better for productivity but is out of my range. Are there other components I should consider? How much faster will the Ryzen 5 3600 improve my current experience?
based on the graphics card you choose, you can upgrade to either the 3600 or the 10600k for optimal value. if your overall build stays around $1,000, the 3600 is more advantageous. when you invest $2,000, pairing it with a 3080 at 144hz makes sense. for memory, expect roughly a $40 difference between the lowest and top options at around 10% if you go with the 3600. i’d recommend spending that extra $40 on better RAM.

what budget and country? if you could still wait then i would recommend waiting for zen 3
