Windows 8 to Go was primarily aimed at students and educators, offering a tailored computing experience. It wasn't intended for general non-enterprise users.

It's likely schools would prohibit such use.

I hacked myself a windows 8 to go when I went to school 3 years ago. Installed it on a WD Passport 1TB HDD. it was slow boot the first time because it had to install the drivers but afterwards was great. It helped me not have to bother with the PC being slowed down to a crawl by their shit antivirus and being stuck with IE. They knew about it cause obviously how can you NOT stand out when you use windows 8 and everyone else got XP you can find tutorials online on how to make it yourself.

The school's bios require an admin password for booting from any medium other than the HDD.

It works on various computers. I haven’t watched a tutorial, but I can guide you. No Windows 8 key is required.

Windows 8 offers a lot of flexibility in terms of devices you can use. You'll need to complete the initial hardware detection process at startup, which may take longer depending on your storage speed. Once fully booted, it behaves just like standard Windows 8, and you'll still require a valid license key. I don’t recall the specific guide I used to set it up, but the instructions are generally similar.
