Back then they offered free upgrades for Windows 10, so I went ahead and did it. Now I have just one copy left and need to reinstall it on a new drive. I downloaded Microsoft's tool and am making an install disc. Activating it after installation is tricky since I don’t have the original activation key. The computer still works fine. Where can I find my activation key?

Yes, using the key from your old Windows 7 disc should work.

Microsoft maintains a database linking devices to serial keys. When a connection is detected with matching hardware and serial numbers, the system can reinstate the device. Continuing normal operations helps maintain activation.

I’d just set up Windows 10 and check if it boots on its own within a couple of days. If not, I’d attempt the Windows 7 activation key.

No, he didn’t attempt to modify the motherboard during the video, and it worked perfectly.
