Find an option to get older versions of Mac OS for your Mac.
Hi, I’m looking for ways to get an older version of Mac OS like Snow Leopard 10.5 onto an early 2008 iMac that no longer has its drive. Could anyone suggest where to download it or offer alternatives? Thank you!
I checked the apple website but didn't see any older OSx downloads—only Mohave is listed. Regarding installing from a bootable USB, some other users suggest using a DVD instead, which seems to work if it's double-sided and has sufficient space.
Your iMac runs from 10.9 (Mavericks) through 10.11 (El Capitan), and this version is free to obtain. For Macs with High Sierra or earlier (Mojave isn't supported anymore), you can download El Capitan from the App Store via the provided link: https://itunes.apple.com/app/os-x-el-cap...ls=1&mt=12. After that, use this guide to build a USB installer: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201372. I won't promote getting the installer from external sources as per Community Standards.
Would it be feasible to revert to version 10.5 Snow Leopard? I'm curious since I recall the performance issues when upgrading from 10.9 Mavericks—it slowed things down significantly. Even though I understand, I'd like to try the suggested changes and appreciate your help!
This violates our policies. It's available for free on Macs but not on other platforms.
