Technically it's possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. The VRMs can overheat, causing your CPU to throttle and shortening the lifespan of your motherboard. I've heard many stories about bad VRMs damaging CPUs by drawing excessive current.

It might make a difference to have a quality aftermarket CPU cooler. Your friend gave it to you, but you’re considering getting it only if necessary.

It would slightly lower the temperatures, though it wouldn’t address the issue with the discrete MOSFETs. You might also consider limiting the power to the Ryzen 7s I mentioned before. This would decrease performance, but it would still be an improvement over a Ryzen 5.
