Hey, I see what you're asking about. It's hard to find affordable 2x4GB DDR2 SODIMM kits these days. Most places only list 2x2GB options, which seem way too expensive compared to the price of a decent 16GB DDR4 kit. As for why 8GB kits are so costly—beyond supply and demand, it might be due to limited availability, higher manufacturing costs, or market trends pushing prices up.

They no longer exist and are probably being discarded as leftover inventory. Because of how supply and demand work, they can command higher prices since availability is limited. Those large quantities of RAM (especially DDR2) would have been very expensive, so few people would have purchased them. I looked in my DDR2 storage area and saw some SO-DIMM modules, but they only came in 512MB sizes.

besides 8GB RAM, having a desktop with that kind of setup was uncommon during the DDR2 era

Check out an OCZ or Corsair kit on eBay. Those were top picks back then. OCZ Reaper and Corsair Dominator are the most recommended options.

After checking online, there seems to be no availability for 1066 DDR2 SODIMM chips. Two 4GB SODIMM modules for DDR2 are quite costly.

It appears in the JDEC standard, though the budget-focused individuals tend to use most figures. Those rare exceptional items are much more difficult to find. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR2_SDRAM

It makes sense, it's strange to find 4GB kits for under 5€, but then you see 8GB models suddenly cost over 80€. I actually have a 16GB DDR3 SSD that I found while disassembling something I built before.

I found mostly information from Hynix and Samsung. The items you mentioned seem to be aimed at desktops, and the OCR results suggest they’re related to cases. There appear to be some RAM clarity concerns as well.
