Hello. I recently upgraded my Asus Prime x470 Pro motherboard's BIOS and noticed that one of my M2 SSDs freezes when using Windows 10. I've tried installing the latest software on Linux Mint, Kali Linux, and Ubuntu without any issues. The SSD also works fine in another motherboard (a Chinese X99) with Windows 10. I attempted to downgrade using the Asus EZ Flash Tool but couldn't complete it. Additionally, using the AMI Firmware Utility in various environments caused freezing during the launch process. How can I revert the BIOS version back to its previous state?

The latest B450 and X470 BIOS updates eliminated the option to downgrade or upgrade further. This adjustment was made to accommodate support for Zen 3. The announcement came in the summer of 2020, meaning this isn’t new information. Originally, the BIOS had a limit of 16 megabytes, which wasn’t sufficient for Zen 3 features. Therefore, the ability to flash the BIOS further was removed because it wasn’t deemed necessary after the initial flash. I’m not sure what “SO” refers to in your first sentence.

This time, avoid changing the BIOS settings. For those using 400 series boards, it seems the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max is the only model that supports downgrading, likely due to its custom 32MB EEPROM configuration compared to the standard 16MB used by others.

Refund seems unattainable since the purchase was made in January 2019; warranty has expired. I plan to connect a M.2 to USB C adapter and see if it functions properly. The adapter initially includes its own controller, which appears to work as intended.

Yes, your motherboard includes several M.2 slots and I've tested each one.

It features two M.2 connections, and I'm using a different M.2 SSD in each port without any issues.

You have two SSDs and two slots. One SSD is working and boots Windows, while the other isn't. Try booting into the other M.2 slot and verify that Windows can detect the issues with the first M.2, which should fit in the lower slot.

I purchased an M.2 adapter PCI-E 4x on AliExpress and received it on Friday morning. I tested it with the broken SSD, and it functioned properly. However, after the last BIOS update for this SSD, the M.2 controller on the motherboard isn't working well. The positive side is that a cheaper 6€ adapter fixed the issue, but the negative part is that updating ASUS BIOS made my motherboard performance worse compared to before.
