Find a way to secure your semi-childproof Chromebook effectively.
I need a kid-friendly version of the Chromebook setup. We bought it thinking it would be safer with hidden features and remote access, but now we're dealing with someone who can unlock developer mode and install apps outside the official store. She's even managed to hide her mouse and avoid seeing her browser. My mother lives far away, so we're using Chrome Remote Desktop for support, but she can't see her mouse or navigate easily. I want to keep her comfortable while still protecting her from risks without forcing a new device.
Teach her properly. Avoid tight control and avoid making her feel less important.
apparently, when we attempted this, it didn’t work at all. It’s tough not being able to fully guide her through every troubleshooting step, especially when she might not grasp the process well. I wish I could be more playful. My wife and sister have different ideas about why she needs a semi-restrictive computer. I thought a Chromebook or MacBook would suffice, but I don’t want to risk a Mac for what’s essentially a netbook. I’d rather avoid setting up strict network rules that block her from unsafe sites. She seems upset because she feels less control over her device now—where once she could easily access many games and understand the mechanics. She’s already had two other laptops slow down drastically, with endless pop-ups for unknown programs.
