My first topic! I'm hoping someone can help me pick out an OS for an old server that'll let me get good use out of it for things like Minecraft servers and Plex without losing access to some of the features this thing has like HP iLO and the readout on the front panel. The system is an HP ProLiant ML370 G5, I made 10 bucks getting it out of a guy's garage, and would like to turn it into a NAS/server to take some pressure off of my PC. PROCESSOR TYPE : INTEL XEON DUAL-CORE CLOCK SPEED : 2.33GHZ L2 CACHE SIZE : 4MB FRONT SIDE BUS : 1333MHZ PROCESSOR SOCKET : 771-PIN PROCESSOR QTY : 1 Includes 4GB of RAM: 4 x 1GB DDR2 PC2-5300 667MHz 240pin ECC FB-DIMM HP 398706-051 Includes NO HDD Includes HP P420 RAID controller with 256 Cache and battery Includes 1 Power Supply: HP 379123-001 1000W Power Supply I'm super at the edge of my knowledge working with equipment like this but the unit is in great shape aside from missing drives so I'd like to get some use out of it if I can while learning about Enterprise grade equipment/software in the process. Further down the line, I'd like to give ESXi a try (the last owner used it for that) so anything that offers flexibility down the line would be best. I'm pretty comfortable with Linux, mostly Ubuntu and Debien Mint, but if there's anything you guys think would work best for this particular piece, I'd REALLY love to hear your advice. Bonus Question: I noticed the manual for the thing lists a maximum storage capacity of about 2TB with all bays occupied. Is that goverened by the controller, or is it a hard limit I can't get around?

I think the drive format Fat32 has a maximum size of 2TB per drive! I might be mistaken.

You can use FAT32 with drives larger than that. I've prepared 250GB formatted in FAT32

Unusual, every HDD and USB stick is only compatible with FAT 32 format. Storage up to 32GB is supported, but files bigger than 2GB can't be saved on them.
