You have a vintage system with limited specs. For installation on an 8GB USB drive, consider lightweight distributions like Lubuntu or Xubuntu, or use a minimal Linux distribution such as Linux Lite. These are optimized for older hardware and smaller storage.

Additionally, it fails on any Live CD after 5 to 15 minutes. The battery and hard drive are being recognized, verified in the BIOS.

According to what I understand, Arch Linux is the most lightweight Linux distribution, except for those designed mainly for minimal size.

I understood the issue. I attempted to set it up on an older laptop with mixed hardware, but the networking component didn’t work, stopping the installation. I haven’t tried again since.

Sure, just a console output. I'll keep it simple for your needs.

Don't worry, installing Debian can be straightforward with the right steps. Check out beginner guides or official documentation for detailed instructions.

Noticed Debian requires more than 8GB of storage.

Puppy Linux is a decent lightweight distribution, though I’m unsure if it’s still actively developed. You’re also asking about Debian—only needs about 2 GB without the desktop, and with netinstall it uses roughly 250 MB on the flash drive. If you prefer a minimal setup, consider Arch Linux instead.

Consider trying Lubuntu—it's based on Ubuntu but runs with LXDE as its desktop instead of Unity. LXDE is quite light, though remember it uses different, more minimal software than other options.
