Hello! Your Geforce 750 Ti should work well with 4K content, especially if you're okay with lower settings. For a smooth experience, consider a mid-range GPU like the RTX 3050 or RX 6500 XT. Both offer good performance for 4K video at around 60fps without needing a powerhouse setup.

Are you concerned about driver flexibility? Probably not unless you're using an NVIDIA card. For 2D applications, stick with Intel's integrated solutions they offer now. If you prefer open drivers and their advantages, consider a GCN 1.0 or 1.1 based ATI/AMD card. While all three may have minor issues, NVIDIA's approach has drawn criticism within the community. For gaming, they likely provide the best overall experience. AMD cards, though, don't match NVIDIA performance due to driver limitations, but they can outperform Intel graphics in many cases.

Mint with cinnamon offers a 2x enlargement feature (likely covering the range from 1080 to 4K). Mint paired with MATE could present challenges (you'd have to adjust DPI for text and resize interface components, and even then it might not be ideal). From a GPU perspective, excluding gaming considerations, a mid-range processor should handle 4K60 playback easily. AMD provides stronger open-source driver support.

I value the flexibility of openness, yet prioritize its functionality within the platform.

I utilize the Cinnamon desktop. I wasn't aware it offered a scaling feature. Now I am.

IGPU and AMD options are the best solutions. Nvidia causes issues with Cinnamon and MATE, but I work well with an IGPU using Cinnamon.

In cases where AMD guidance aligns closely, results are satisfactory. Performance meets expectations, though not as outstanding as NVIDIA drivers. The AMD GPU and Radeon series drivers now support modern graphics APIs and remain accessible. Using them regularly here proves reliable with strong stability, except for a small issue: audio through HDMI may fluctuate due to pending DAL integration in the kernel. For critical needs, consider the optional hybrid AMDGPU-PRO stack. An Intel card offers full openness but sacrifices speed. I’m confident they can manage 4K/60f video, though CPU strength will influence that outcome. Regarding HMDI audio, it appears to be a concern only on GCN1.2 and newer versions; older models like the 7770 or 5xxx series function perfectly fine.
