I ran the ccleane registry cleaner countless times without any problems or issues, just cleared out everything unnecessary.

Sure, I need to stick with XP. Many of the tools I rely on perform better there. For example, F@H works well.

In short: It’s safe to back up your registry if concerned, though it won’t boost performance. Regarding lost CCleaner tools, Drive Wiper can overwrite an entire drive with random bits, making recovery nearly impossible. Doing this 26 times would take about six weeks on a 1TB drive.
