Current configuration: RTX 2080, AMD 2600X16GB RAM, 3000MHz, B450 Aorus Pro board, 750 gold PCIe slot, 1440p display at 144Hz. My CPU has been limiting my GPU performance since I switched to a 144Hz monitor; I need a faster CPU soon. Assistance needed to find a suitable CPU that fits my 2080, considering my average motherboard isn’t great and doubting 5000-series support. Also, I’ve noticed Intel CPUs are inexpensive and could pair with a better board for similar prices.

Consider 5800X or opt for Intel i5-11600K paired with a Z490 board.

The 5800x might be too large for your motherboard.

It should cover it, provided the BIOS is upgraded to accommodate the 5000 series chips.

Compare the costs and benefits of each model to see if the extra price for the 5800x justifies the upgrade.

It varies with the titles you play. For 144Hz it works well for most games. Your motherboard isn’t a concern. Aorus chips usually aren’t outstanding, but their VRMs hold up. The 5600X uses similar power to the 2600X, so performance shouldn’t drop.
