Final shutdown after initial cooling
Final shutdown after initial cooling
Hi, So I have had this problem for a few years at this point, I have tried fixing it hundreds of times, but it just won't go away fully. So here goes: Booting up cold (not running for a few hours often about one night) I get into the OS just fine, this has happened on Windows 10, 11, Debian, Arch etc... But if I start opening applications right away I get a full freeze, no response, no indications of storage activity, the monitors just show the still frame from when it froze. Doing a hard reboot fixes the problem until the next cold boot. Also, just waiting like 15 min after cold boot to do anything fixes it 95% of the time. This has also happened over several boot drives, NVMe, SDD and hard drive. The only things that are constant are the motherboard, motherboard firmware, GPU, screen, ram and power supply. These components were the same when I first bought the pc, and only after like 5 years did the problem start occurring. I recently change to a NVMe boot drive and now this problem only happens 70% of the time instead of 100%. Current build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WkcLW4 I also changed CPU ca a year before this problem and I still have that CPU (8 core 12 thread non server xeon, can check the model number if you ask). It could be that I just need to flash a new image to the motherboard, but it seems somewhat unlikely since the problem is always in OS. My only two guesses are power supply and GPU at this point. I am going to be purchasing new of both in the coming weeks, I think so if so that might fix the problem. Current OS EndeavourOS (arch base) with Gnome, fully up to date with proprietary Nvidia drivers and cuda installed. Thanks in advance if you have any ideas /Albin
This "image" seems to include many small codes that influence how your parts work. It might be worth trying. Maybe, but I doubt a power supply would react like this. If it simply cut off completely, then that’s the case. But... the GPU... That still feels odd. In my opinion, it could display other signs too. After all, I’ve seen unusual behavior before, so I can’t rule anything out. Just sharing my thoughts.
I'll attempt to flash a new image and get back to you shortly.
