Final decision for everyone.
Final decision for everyone.
I just set up Windows 10 and began seeing some apps from Windows Apps. Today I wanted to move the installation location from C: to D:. But Windows warned me that this drive already has apps from another device. It asked if I should delete the existing apps first before using this drive. I said yes. Now it’s unclear whether my personal files will be lost, since I don’t have them available through the Microsoft Store and only third-party options exist. Also, please let me know if I should keep all programs on C: or D:. I’m really tired of this situation—I often see apps automatically install to C: but I can’t find the right place to choose.
Pros and cons of placing programs on C: vs D: (or another drive):
- C: has 115GB left, D: has 223GB left.
- Total storage is 500GB HDD.
- Hope this helps clarify what will happen.
Gather a bigger storage device, minimum a terabyte capacity. NewEgg offers these options. Back up all your files from both C: and D: locations onto alternative media such as flash drives or CDs. Then remove the smaller drive and reinstall your OS on the remaining one, adding the new drive as a secondary storage. Retain the removed unit as a backup or store it in a case for external use. The final setup could include a 319GB C: drive paired with a larger terabyte D: drive. If either drive is an SSD, consider installing Windows 10 there and utilize the bigger drive for everything else.
