Hello! The goal is to add more drives to an existing storage pool. Even though they’re formatted and recognized in Disk Management, they don’t appear as available drives when trying to add them in the pool. Here’s what I have:
- Windows 11 Pro
- 4 x Seagate EXOS 20 TB (2 from another system)
- 2 x 4 TB NVMe SSDs
- 1 x 2 TB NVMe SSD (i9 13900k, 128 GB RAM, R9 7900x)
- All drives are NTFS-formatted and detected in Disk Management
Despite successful detection on the new build, adding the fourth drive is problematic. I suspect this isn’t an issue with upgrading from Windows 10 to 11, but I’m still facing difficulties. I need true parity for RAID 1, and two of the four 4 TB SSDs aren’t showing up in the pool. I’m considering creating spanned volumes in Disk Management instead of managing storage spaces, since I already have 20 TB of data. Let me know if you’d like a screenshot or further details!
I fixed my own problem! It seems Storage Spaces doesn’t support partitions on the drive you plan to add. Notably, the HDD I wanted (DISK 0) already had an EFI partition. When I installed Windows on my new machine, it placed the OS on the SSD and the EFI on the HDD. I had to reinstall Windows using only the SSD connected, forcing the BIOS to boot from the right drive, then reinserting the other drives. After that, I removed the EFI partition from DISK 0 and the NTFS partition, and Storage Spaces recognized the drive.
