File download rate limited by network constraints
I’m experiencing significantly reduced transfer speeds across my home Gigabit LAN from two devices. I’m using a Gigabyte Brix J4105 as a Plex/backup unit with an external 10TB WD Elements drive. Previously, it ran on Ubuntu and shared files via LANShare at gigabit performance. Recently switched to Windows 10 for simplicity, but now I’m getting around 15MB/s through built-in sharing—far below the expected 100MB/s. BRIX SS from Main Computer to Brix shows 200MB/s capability, while Main Computer to Drive 2 also supports over 200MB/s. I’m unsure what’s causing this drop. Have any users encountered similar issues?
The speed is 210MB/s when connecting to other drives, but drops to 15MB/s over the network. Both drives use a gigabit switch, confirming they operate at gigabit rates.
The external drive provides power through a USB port or offers its own external power source.
It might be useful to review the different drivers and configurations in Windows. Assuming standard settings wouldn’t cause this issue, it’s possible they were altered unintentionally.
The external drive operates independently with its own power source.
I’ve reviewed everything to ensure drivers are current on both devices, adjusted several settings, reset them all, modified some options, and made further changes. Still, nothing appears to be working. It’s making me think there might be a concealed option for sharing transfer speeds.
