Prior to the patch, the game operated at roughly 7-10 FPS on a GTX 1080. After applying the update, starting the game remains problematic. If you need a solution, I’m unsure if GOG provides refunds for new purchases; I bought it today.

They definitely do. It usually takes about two weeks after purchase. You haven’t bought it from Fanatical yet? You’re missing out! They offer all three F.E.A.R. titles plus the DLC for F.E.A.R. 2 for $4.99. It’s no longer in stock, but I think they still list it often. Have you tried reinstalling the game? Have you looked at this page already... https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/article...R-Platinum?

FEAR 2 and 3 are really bad. But this version is completely free of DRM. The small update actually functions properly. I faced some problems when trying to launch FEAR with incorrect video settings, so I had to move the folder to My Documents and it created a fresh one, which then allowed the game to start. The direct input patch didn’t seem to fix that issue.

I was unavailable for a while, but the update worked after restart. I’ll check the alternative option from Fanatical.

Running Fear Extraction Point at 30-40 FPS on an AMD Radeon HD 6310 with a slow CPU. I tweaked the settings to remove reflections.
