I recall the most cherished moments from 10.7 in a special way.
I've seen only basic MacOS bus setups due to my taste. I really enjoyed the OSX versions where the dock felt more like a shelf and icons expanded as you hovered over them. Right now, I'm using the latest OSX beta in a VM—its edges are smoothed out, but it still doesn’t stand out much. It runs smoothly on two cores and 8GB RAM from a regular HDD.
I realized just how many Mac OS versions I've used lately after receiving a Mac Plus with a 20 Mb HD drive. It's still running (System 6.4.2) which is pretty surprising. Right now, my preferred stable version would be Catalina, though I'll soon have to switch to Big Sur. Catalina was the final release that maintained some backward compatibility with older software, but it no longer supports those legacy 32-bit programs.
They were talking about a version number—likely 10.0 or 10.1. Back then I mainly used Debian, but early OS X really shook things up. Even Mac users would still run both OS X and Mac OS 9 until Lion. It seemed like they didn’t fully launch their potential until with Lion. Features like AirDrop, system-wide emojis, FaceTime, File Vault appeared with Lion. Yosemite then pushed me toward switching from Ubuntu.
