When investing heavily in an older high-end CPU, upgrading the motherboard to support a contemporary chip could be the right move.

Xeon E5-2699 with multicore processors i7-6850K (roughly 3600 raw power) for gaming. Skip the critics, not everyone requires a 7700x. If you already have the 2011v3 and can't splurge on a new motherboard and components, the i7-6850K works just fine.

This site dates back a long time, far beyond anything new. Upgrading isn't necessary here.

No chance — it’s listed for $300 on eBay! A fresh B550 motherboard for $100 plus a 5700x for $200 adds up to that price. It would be more affordable, stronger, and upgrade-friendly. Spending a bit more lets you even grab a 13600k.

Don't upgrade. It wouldn't be worthwhile; you could purchase a much superior CPU and motherboard for the price of just the CPU on that platform.

The top choice for a single-socket setup is the Xeon E5-1650 v4, offering six cores and a 3.6 GHz base speed. It’s comparable to an i7-6850K and is frequently available on eBay in the US for around $50 with shipping. For budget options, the quad-core E5-1630 V4 is roughly half the cost. While the LGA2011-3 variant can support up to 22 cores, higher core counts usually mean lower clock speeds to manage heat. If your needs are limited to gaming, it may not justify the investment—many games won’t fully utilize those threads. This architecture was detailed on Wikipedia. If you’re planning a large upgrade, stick to more affordable processors; they’ll outperform this machine in most scenarios.
