Fascinating issues with pings
Hi everyone! I've been playing Overwatch and using Discord for a month, but this Monday things changed. I began experiencing massive ping in nearly all games, only appearing when joining a match. If I stayed idle, I thought it might be a network issue or a problem with the game itself. However, the same day I started facing Discord call problems, my ping would spike after about 10-20 minutes of chatting. The high ping lasted until I logged out and back in. Also, during those Discord calls, other players could clearly hear me while I only picked up faint robot sounds from my friends. What’s unusual is that the big ping spikes in Overwatch and Discord don’t happen together—they occur separately. The ping issues during Discord calls didn’t affect my internet speed, even though I checked for consistency. I’ve tried restarting my computer, updating Windows, changing the Ethernet cable, switching networks, reinstalling Discord, and even using an older laptop (about two years old). The OS is Windows 11 Home, CPU AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, Radeon 2.90 GHz, GPU NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080TI, and I’m using an Asus RT-AX55 router. Thanks for your time and help!
It doesn't seem like a hardware problem. If you experience stuttering in one app, like Discord, switch to another application, such as a game. If the stuttering occurs with an app that has been running for a while and a new app works perfectly, it's unlikely a local device issue is present. More likely, your ISP might be throttling traffic based on streaming data.
When game and chat servers face heavy demand or network congestion, this issue may occur. Your internet connection to your ISP might be stable, but the server path could be affected. In such scenarios, little can be done unless you switch to another server manually. If the problem persists, try rebooting your ISP modem or gateway—turn it off for an hour before turning it back on.
