Fantasy General 2
Fantasy General 2
So, first of all let me apoligize for another post in the gaming tread but.... i just received some news that really, REALLY got me excited..
Slitherine will be releasing later this year, FANTASY GENERAL 2!!!!
Now how about 'that.
Slitherine aquired the rights to previous mentioned title. This will be a reënvisioning of the in 1969 released SSI title Fantasy General. On a much broader scale that is... no reboot with upgraded quality graphics like that seems to be the hype atm ( yes we look at you EA & Blizzard )
Now ain't that something!!!
The graphics might seem old-fashioned, but the original game was quite solid. My computer struggled to run it smoothly at full speed when it came out, but I’d definitely try another version. It might be worth getting the first one from GOG just for the nostalgia.
handled the initial part of the fourth island, stopped due to stress, tried again later through gog. They modified some settings, making it boot only in black sidebars instead of full screen before. I hope to complete the game at least once… The Warlord is the game that fits me best, but this time I’ll try the Wizard.
I just discovered this. It looks like a settings file that might help with full screen properly.
You can find it here: https://www.gog.com/forum/fantasy_genera...creen_mode
I don't remember playing the wizard either.
Thank you for your effort, but the issue I'm referring to is more recent. Labeling it as a problem might be excessive since the game functions perfectly. I've played FG frequently over the past few years and only recently observed the introduction of two new events when setting up the game and during gameplay. The first screen represents one of these new additions; in previous versions, such a choice didn't exist for me. The 2d screen displays what I mean with the black bars. Previously, the image was displayed across the entire width and height, but now it appears to be the only available option. I've attempted adjustments via the quick menu from the GOG menu and within the dosbox configuration file, where a different viewing option should have been accessible, though no changes were made. My preference remains for the full screen.
The screen cap with the black bar represents the proper aspect ratio after scaling. If it differs, your monitor aspect was adjusted to stretch. With a 50% overstretch preference, you can modify it in your monitor settings under Nvidia Panel (the location varies depending on your card). For AMD models, I’m unsure of the exact setting—there’s no clear interface, and only one preset works, while others cause errors.
The solution was to switch the rendering method from overlay to surface. (image spreads) If you plan to purchase the game from GoG, it's advised to look for the specified string and replace "auto" with this number in the file dosbox_fg located in the main game directory. cycles=24000 (cycles=auto would be the game setting; searching may be challenging due to all lines being combined)
The Legacy
Fantasy General II revives the strategy game masterpiece from the 90s!
Army formations once more shape the devastated terrain of Keldonia, as a fresh wave of commanders challenges each other with courage and clever tactics. The world of fantasy wargaming is alive again!
The Battles
Sticking closely to the original concept, Fantasy General II centers on turn-based confrontations. Command over 75 distinct unit varieties, from formidable champions, to navigate through strategic planning and decisive action. Shape your legacy as a ruthless war-leader by weighing terrain, equipment, magic, morale, and force balance.
The Campaign
Through each clash, choices must be made and armies refined. Junior recruits will grow stronger with experience, transforming even the most inexperienced fighters into formidable warriors. Yet heed this warning: triumphs that cost dearly may prove more costly than defeat… for when battle-hardened forces fall, their progress fades too.
Each unit possesses unique strengths, weapons, and armor, and can be enhanced with magical relics discovered in combat or upgraded using gold and resources gathered from the enemy.
The Clans
A coalition of independent hill tribes, fiercely defending their autonomy and ready to defend it at all costs. From fierce field warriors and berserkers, to archers and shamans, summon spirits and elemental forces, or employ agile stag riders, deadly bears, or hire skilled archers, mercenaries, and centaurs.
The Empire
The dominant power across Aer. Confront the formidable Legions of the Empire, their enchanted weapons and golems, as well as the hordes of the Undead they unleash. Engage in battles against harpies, lizardfolk, and colossal dragons.
The World
Aer’s realm is a tapestry of diverse landscapes. Explore the icy highlands of Fareach, home to your Barbarian Clans; traverse the fertile Borderlands with their rich valleys and ancient forests; venture into the Sunken Land, shrouded in mystery and danger; journey through the temperate Empire to the South, where grand cities rise from the remnants of the dead. Your adventure demands adaptability, as varied terrains and enemies require shifting strategies and evolving forces.
