the 970 msi gaming mobo includes an OC button on the bios that locks the clock at 4.1ghz and sets the fan to 100% (about 5000 rpm, which is quite loud). i’m concerned about whether this could affect my cpu fan, as its normal speed is around 3000 rpm. i wonder if it’s safe to adjust the fan based on cpu temperature, but there’s a risk it might not respond quickly enough and cause damage. i’ve been saving over six months for both the mobo and the cpu, so i’m feeling a bit anxious about this change.

4.1Ghz is a gentle overclock for that chip and the fan is built to operate at maximum speed; slowing it won't significantly extend its lifespan. If it's a standard fan, it can handle up to around 5000 RPM.

CountMike shared that 4.1Ghz is a mild overclock for that processor and fan setup; they are built to run at full speed and won’t last much longer if slowed. If it’s a standard fan, it can spin up to about 5000 RPM or more, but sometimes it doesn’t even reach that speed when the computer starts.
