I've been using this PC for some time now, and it meets the requirements for Fallout New Vegas. I've played quite a lot of the game on this machine, but recently my Windows 10 installation got corrupted during an update, so I had to reinstall it. Since then, I haven't been able to run New Vegas smoothly. I've tried updating drivers, changing compatibility settings, reinstalling the game several times, rebooting, and nothing has resolved the problem. I'm curious if anyone else has faced a similar issue and can offer advice on fixing it. Also, just to clarify, the launcher works perfectly—it launches the game and everything—though loading from a save causes crashes, and starting a new game plays through the intro but then crashes. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Have you attempted to remove and reinstall the game? I recall a comparable problem with Fallout 3, but I’m unsure of the exact solution.

Fallout 3 isn't fully functional on any updates beyond Vista and needs fixes for newer operating systems. I haven't encountered any problems playing Fallout New Vegas on Windows 10. It might help checking the game cache or reinstalling it if needed.

Fallout 3 isn't compatible with Windows 7, which launched just over a year ago. It's puzzling why New Vegas is causing problems now. Do you and others have the Windows 10 Anniversary Update installed? Might the current Steam version be experiencing issues with Windows 10? I've only ever played NV on Windows 10, including on my old 360 before purchasing the Ultimate Edition during this winter sale.

I've tried this several times without success. It could be related to the issue. The game worked well before the recent Windows 10 anniversary update, but after reformatting the computer and installing the update, it hasn't run properly.

Consider using an older driver for your nvidia gpu, such as version 364.72. The anniversary edition includes a driver that doesn't work with the game. Anything prior to driver version 368.95 should still function, though it might be similar to AMD's situation—just revert your driver and you should be fine.

Remembered that I've heard about the problem with NVIDIA's Pascal drivers, and I think they're working on a fix for the upcoming update.

You fixed the issue by rolling back your Nvidia drivers to version 364.72, and Fallout is now working smoothly! Appreciate the assistance!

I encountered identical problems after many attempts with steam support. I shared details with NVIDIA following their second BF1 driver update, which didn’t resolve the issue. I truly hope they plan to fix it, since reverting drivers just for playing New Vegas/FO3 is a hassle and appears to disrupt shadow play.
