Fallout 3 provided significantly more material than Fallout 4, and the modding scene is considerably bigger. I wouldn’t buy Fallout 4 unless you could get it for under $30. Still, think about getting Fallout: New Vegas too. While I believe Fallout 3 is superior, many fans fell in love with New Vegas, offering a broader range of mods and addressing several of the game’s flaws from a playable perspective.
I’d recommend Fallout 4 even though I’m nervous about playing it, since I got it for free. I’ve never played Fallout 3 before.
