You can try alternative methods to install Fallout 3 with New Vegas on modern systems. The issue likely stems from compatibility with newer operating systems, so checking community forums or official guides might help find a solution.

It's highly likely everything will proceed smoothly.

Sure, I noticed that, but is it suitable for everyone? I’m not keen on paying $5 just to try it out if it might not work.

It should function most of the time. If not, consider checking the unofficial patch at http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_3#U...ut_3_Patch or try obtaining it first.

Fallout 3 often poses challenges with newer operating systems because it was originally developed for XP/Vista. My experience varies widely. I can play it smoothly for long periods, but after reinstalling Windows 7 for testing, it frequently crashes within minutes. As mentioned by Almercenary, checking PCGamingWiki for configuration fixes is a good idea. However, if you also own Fallout: New Vegas, installing the Tale of Two Wastelands mod (TTW) can improve stability. This mod merges both games and allows seamless travel between them. You begin in Fallout 3, but if you prefer Fallout: NV, you’ll need to turn off the mod or visit Dukov’s place/mansion to reach NV and start there. For optimal performance, many users find Windows 8+ more compatible with the game. Results may differ.
