You need to fix the boot issue before installing Ubuntu. Check your boot order in BIOS/UEFI and ensure GRUB is set up correctly for dual-booting. If the problem persists, try removing the existing Windows installation media and reinstalling it from a USB drive. After that, follow the standard Ubuntu installation steps.

Initial assumption points to a formatting problem. The error only mentions the drive that failed installation, which might hint at the issue. Consider partitioning the drive during the initial OS setup rather than later. This prevents the subsequent drive from needing to adjust the first one.

Check the disk space carefully: total is 500 GB, Windows 10 uses 250 GB on C drive, leaving 250 GB free. The remaining 221 GB are unallocated. When installing Ubuntu, the system displays 221 GB as unusable and prevents partition allocation. Follow these steps:

1. Ensure you have enough free space (250 GB available).
2. Open Disk Management or Disk Utility to view partitions.
3. Identify the unused space (221 GB) and confirm it’s accessible.
4. If possible, create a new partition using the available space.
5. During installation, select the correct partition size and format it.
6. If still blocked, try resetting the installation settings or reinstalling Windows.
7. After completion, verify the new partition appears correctly.

Let me know if you need further help!

Need quick startup? Enable secure boot. But turn them off if you prefer.

It appears you've already addressed my previous points. The next action should involve verifying your BIOS boot configurations, particularly the ones recommended by @dragonfly43.

Avoid keeping it empty; create a drive so it appears ready for use
