Failed to access the desktop following an attempt to overclock the processor.
I own a computer with the following specifications:
- ASRock 970 Pro3 2.0
- R9 270
- AMD FX-8320E
- 16 Gb of RAM (2x 8Gb)
- Processor fan I'm using is GAMMAX 200T
- Operating System: Windows 7 - 64bit
I attempted to activate X-Boost, which triggers BSOD when the Windows logo appears. After turning it off, everything works fine. I also tried another approach: setting the OC Mode to CPU OC Mode and adjusting the Load Optimized CPU OC Setting to 5% at 3360MHz. With that configuration, I was able to boot into the desktop. However, when I increased the percentage beyond 5% (to 10%, 15%, etc.), the Windows logo would not appear. Then I was prompted to enter BIOS by pressing Del or F12 (I'm not sure which). I restored it to the 5% setting and saved. When trying to run Black Ops 3, the Treyarch logo would appear during the intro video, but the computer would hang with a blue overlay. It didn't trigger the BSOD error.
I restarted the computer, entered BIOS, and changed the settings back to Manual OC Mode and Auto CPU Configuration. After saving, it booted again. Upon entering the Windows logo, there were no error messages—just the ARShock Logo, which provided options to enter BIOS, enable X-Boost, etc. Then it returned to the Windows logo and booted once more.
In another attempt, I pressed Load UEFI Default, which also restarted the system. The ARShock Logo appeared, and when the Windows logo appeared, it booted again, cycling between ARShock and Windows logos.
Some actions that helped were:
- Safe Mode not working and producing the same outcome.
- Enabling low-resolution video also resulted in the same issue.
- Disabling automatic restart on system failure gave the same BSOD screen without details.
- System Recovery Options were accessible.
- Startup Repair provided no improvement.
- Windows Memory Diagnostic showed no errors afterward.
BrattShone asked if it's possible to enter SAFE MODE by pressing F8 for a few seconds when starting the computer. The response was no, and the issue occurred because the files loaded froze briefly before restarting.
