I've been using a Windows laptop for two years now. It's accumulated many unnecessary programs and files over time. I need to perform a factory reset. I've backed up all the essential data onto another external drive. The laptop was purchased from Amazon, and Windows Home was already enabled—no activation key was given. Will the reset process prompt me for an activation key?

You'll be prompted to set up a new local account or log in again after a full reset. Your existing account remains active with all files preserved.

The license is linked to the motherboard, not the exact installation. You can reset and/or reinstall the same Windows version on the same hardware, using the identical key, as often as needed.
