Hey everyone, I'm trying to get my system running properly. When I press the power button, it usually works fine, but sometimes it won't turn on at all. If it doesn’t, I have to hold it down or tap it several times before it starts. Once it’s up, everything seems normal—no crashes or shutdowns. My specs are pretty standard: an i7 8700k, MSI Z370, MSI Z370 Carbon RAM (32GB), G.Skill Trident Z RGB, and a Corsair RM650 power supply that’s been around a while. I think the problem might be with the PSU or the power button itself. Any thoughts?

If the power supply isn't delivering at least 750W, it’s likely the issue lies with the PSU itself.

Disconnecting the power switch and manually activating the system (using a q screwdriver or similar tool) will trigger the same response. This helps verify the button functionality. If it does, the problem likely lies with the motherboard or power supply unit. Always test before concluding.

Consensus reached. Begin with basic components first. A faulty power button can often be bypassed by disconnecting the front panel PWR and testing the MB power button or shorting the power pins. Consistent success indicates a bad button. Persistent issues suggest replacing the PSU, after ensuring all other connections are secure—re-seat cables in MB and GPU, use separate power leads for the GPU. A failing PSU can lead to multiple problems, making diagnosis difficult. I encountered this recently (system crashes). The recommended wattage is 750W, but typical gaming systems like Urs usually run around 550W, so it should be fine. The key is checking for startup spikes and confirming the PSU's health.
