Extremely odd Windows startup program found.
Extremely odd Windows startup program found.
Hey guys.
I opened my Task Manager and checked Startup Programs today. There were two programs listed that looked odd. The first one has no icon and is labeled "1". The second one also lacks an icon and is named "8852f68b-8a6f-43fc-869a-2959dec57375". When I right-clicked on either, the options to open the file location or view properties disappeared. No results came up online. I’m using a fully updated Windows 11 with Microsoft Defender installed and haven’t done anything suspicious online. I watch YouTube and play games via Steam. Any ideas? I haven’t disabled them yet, but I’ll check soon.
Yes. Let's see, probably a week ago I downloaded two addons for Temple of Elemental Evil. First was called Circle of Eight,
Circle of Eight Modding Community - The Temple of Elemental Evil

and the second is Temple+

also, Median XL for Diablo 2
Home - Median XL
The most popular Diablo II overhaul modification. Median XL is an action RPG with extensive endgame content, deep character customisation and challenging gameplay.

This post seems to resemble my own, and it talks about the game "Once Human". I downloaded it a few weeks ago. Maybe it's connected to that game?
This situation isn't unusual, I believe it often happens when the startup item is a service rather than an executable file. Have you checked the Services app (RUN -> services.msc)? If you discover something relevant, double-clicking it will provide additional information like the file path.
They became registry entries from the game "Once Human". They tracked how many times you played the game, and another was tied to your Steam account ID or something similar. It seems this method is simply a careless or poor way of recording such details. I have since deleted the game and related registry keys from Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
