Extremely hot conditions for my Ryzen 9 5900x
Yesterday I switched from an Intel i5-10400F to a Ryzen 9 5900X with X570 Dark Hero. It's cooled by the Corsair H150i Elite Capellix. Although I appreciate the change, the temperatures have been quite inconsistent. Idle temps usually sit between 35-60°C, but during light gaming like CS:GO (playing at 640x480 on my GT 710), they can spike to around 78°C—something I find unacceptable given I haven’t overclocked the CPU. I’ve confirmed the AIO pump and thermal paste are applied correctly. The AIO sits front-mounted with tubes pointing downward. My case is the Corsair 220T, equipped with two fans on top and back.
Your temperatures are normal. The 5900X runs hot, but it has a lot of power—about 6C per 12 threads and 24T. The 10400F uses 12C for every 24T, so you get double the cores in the same size package.
Absolutely, that's a good chip and the temperatures are typical. Your setup also provides adequate cooling. No cause for concern.
Is your motherboard configured with MCE or PBO features? That makes sense given the context.
