Hello, my name is Jonathan and I'm experiencing some network problems. I live in the EU and recently noticed consistently high ping values across multiple games—Overwatch, Minecraft, Fortnite, and even in shortcuts. I checked if a server switch might be causing the issue, but it didn't help. Now I'm playing in America on Overwatch and getting around 200ms, which is much better, though still not ideal. I'm puzzled as to why my ping is lower in other regions and whether this is related to my network. I've been using the same provider for about a year now. Since the coronavirus is spreading quickly in my country, I'm stuck at home and need guidance.

It seems this might be related to server-side operations rather than your own device. The increased number of users online today means more traffic than ever before. I anticipate possible technical issues. If you restart the router, will there be noticeable improvements in performance?

Several elements might contribute to high latency. I've experienced problems with my ISP that result in packet loss and irregular latency spikes. First, ensure your computer is up-to-date with all system updates and BIOS. Next, reset and reinstall the firmware on your router if you have one. Conduct at least five consecutive speed tests using SpeedTest.net. Also, visit packetlosstest.com to check for network issues or hardware faults. Consider running a ping test from your router to verify stability. Open a command prompt and type "ping 192.168.1.1 /t" (adjust IP if needed). Wait about 5-10 minutes, then stop the test by pressing Ctrl+C. For wired connections, expect response times under 2ms. If you see delays or packet loss, try swapping the cable and retesting. Should all tests pass after updates, inform your ISP with your findings so they can confirm if the problem lies elsewhere.

I ran the speedtest.net link you mentioned and here’s the outcome: https://www.speedtest.net/result/9141625971. The packet loss test directed me to a site about it, but I had to adjust some settings for accuracy. I won’t test this one now; instead, I’ll try the CMD method you referenced. After that, I’ll reach out to my network provider to check if they can identify the issue themselves. I’ll let you know if anything changes.

It wouldn't cause any harm. Many internet service providers offer external testing that they can perform on your modem to assess their systems.

I completed the reset, but nothing altered. I’ll contact the network provider to check for a remote fix.

Also checked your Speedtest results—it matches what I’ve seen from my ISP lately. My speeds are around 100 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up, but yours were almost identical. Turns out they had a faulty node from a lightning strike they’ve been trying to fix for months without fully resolving the issue.

The speed test results may not be reliable and could display incorrect figures.

The expected speeds from your ISP are typically listed in their service agreements or provided during setup.
